TEMPO Interactive, Bandung: Several of investors from Japan are committed to increase their investments in West Java.

West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan said that Japan was asking for confirmation about the setting up of a special economy zone in the province.

At the present, several industrial estates areas are in the process of becoming a special zone as well as seven industrial estates in Bekasi.

Permission in principle to change industrial estates into an international economic zone has approved by the Bekasi Regent.

According to Heryawan, the follow up process was now awaiting approval from the central government.

In addition to economic zones, Japan is also asking about confirmation over the minimum wage.

Japan does not mind higher wages as long as they are in line with the inflation rate, the economic situation, and do not create security disturbances.

Japan’s Ambassador to Indonesia Kojiro Shiojiri said that Japan was committed desired to increase investment in Indonesia, especially in West Java because its location is close to Jakarta.

At the moment, there are around 400 Japanese companies located in West Java.
