Japan to help regreen Lake Toba

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Mita Toshiya, visiting chairman of the
Tokyo Legislative Council, has pledged to provide financial
assistance for the regreening program at Lake Toba.

"We will enhance cooperation with North Sumatra province,
especially in the regreening program for Lake Toba," he said
after meeting with North Sumatra Gov. T. Rizal Nurdin here on
Wednesday.

Mita along with his 27-member entourage was visiting North
Sumatra on the invitation of the governor who visited Tokyo last
October.

He explained that the Japanese government has renewed its
strong commitment to preserving the environment by helping
conservation programs both at home and overseas. --JP
