Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Japan is expected to develop six economic corridors as part of its efforts to increase its investment in Indonesia, Chief Economic Minister Hatta Radjasa said.

The minister said here on Tuesday that he would discuss with Japan its plan to develop the six economic corridors during his visit to that country on October 14-16, 2010.

"The meeting in Japan would be attended by four to five ministers. This indicated that Japan considered the meeting as important where it would raise the investment plan on the six economic corridors," the minister said.

He said that the government would offer the special economic zone concept with a concrete step in the construction of infrastructure with Japan to serve as model of development.

"I want something concrete. We would offer directly two of the six corridors in the first place and take Java as a model in the infrastructure development," he said.

He said that the intended infrastructure development could begin with the construction of a Mass Rapid Transportation system (MRT) in the Jakarta and its buffer zones areas of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.

"We start it from MRT project first. Then there would be expanded talks. Then we would talk about seaports, airports and other kinds of projects," he said.

He said that these had not yet included areas in the eastern part of Indonesia, but Western part, namely Jakarta.

"For this time we talk about Java first. The models are the six economic corridors. Japan wants that first," he said.(*)
