Japan, Thailand remain unbeaten
FUKUOKA, Japan (AFP): Thailand outplayed Vietnam in four sets yesterday to remain unbeaten before a final clash against defending champions Japan, at the Asian Pacific Cup men's volleyball tournament.
The Thai spikers, who had to be satisfied with runner-up spot behind Japan last year, coasted to a 15-7, 15-5, 12-15, 15-5 victory for a fourth straight win in the six-team round robin.
The Japanese, seeking a fifth straight Cup, fended off a challenge from Indonesia 15-9, 15-8, 15-12. Japan is also unbeaten in the tournament.
In the last match at the Fukuoka gymnasium, the Philippines downed Malaysia 15-10, 15-3, 14-16, 15-7, to be tied with Indonesia in the standings with a 2-2 win-loss record.
Malaysia and Vietnam stood at 0-4.
