Japan-RI power deal

TOKYO (AFP): Japanese trading houses Nissho Iwai Corp., Sumitomo Corp. and Tomen Corp. have won a 9.7 billion yen (US$115 million) to supply an Indonesian project with power equipment, company officials said yesterday.

Under the deal, Nissho Iwai received a 7.2 billion yen order for four substations, the officials said. Nissho Iwai will source the equipment from Japan's Hitachi Ltd. and Cogelex of France.

Sumitomo meanwhile received a 1.2 billion yen order for underground power lines for two routes and will source the equipment from Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd.

Tomen received a 1.3 billion yen order for two substations, which will be supplied by Fuji Electric Co. Ltd.

The three Japanese companies are part of a consortium of Japanese, French and German companies involved in the Indonesian project worth $400 million, the officials said.
