Japan retains Asia Pacific volleyball
FUKUOKA, Japan: Japan showed strength against South East Asian countries when its second-string national side outgunned Indonesia to retain the Asia Pacific Cup men's volleyball tournament on Sunday.
The Japanese defending champion posted a 25-23, 25-11, 25-23 victory in a top-of-the-table battle against Indonesia to wind up the six-team round robin with five straight wins, never losing a single set in five matches.
It was Japan's 13th straight victory here and 14th overall.
Indonesia finished second, followed by Thailand, who defeated the Philippines 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19 for a 3-2 win-loss record to take third place.
Vietnam, the winner over Malaysia 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 earlier in the day, ended at fourth place with 2-3, followed by the Philippines with 1-4 and winless Malaysia. --AFP
