Japan Hopes US-Iran Negotiations Continue Towards De-escalation

Tokyo (ANTARA) - Japan’s Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara stated that his side hopes negotiations between the United States and Iran can be resumed soon and that a final agreement can be reached. “The most important thing is to achieve de-escalation of the situation as soon as possible, including ensuring the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” Kihara said during a press conference on Monday. He added that Tokyo continues to monitor developments in the region. “We hope that negotiations between the US and Iran will be continued and ultimately lead to a quick resolution of the agreement,” the official said. Kihara emphasised that Japan will continue to support dialogue between the relevant parties and mediation efforts by interested countries, acting in close coordination with the international community. On Sunday, US President Donald Trump announced that his representatives would head to Islamabad for negotiations with Iran. The US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz claimed that US-Iran talks would resume within the next 24 hours. However, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported that Iran has rejected participation in the second round of talks with the US.
