Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government continues to push the development of the Rebana area in West Java as a new centre of economic growth. This time, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs has teamed up with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to open up new investment and partnership opportunities, including for Japanese companies.

The effort was made through the Rebana Area Development Co-Creation Seminar: New Business Opportunities and Public-Private Partnerships in Indonesia, held in Jakarta yesterday (7/9/2026).

Suroto, Deputy Assistant for Economic Zone Development and Strategic Projects at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, said the development of the Rebana area must not stop at the planning stage. The government wants the various designs that have been drawn up to be realised as tangible projects that attract investment and create added value for the economy.

“The development of the Rebana area does not stop at planning; it must be translated into programmes and projects that can be implemented and deliver added value to the economy,” said Suroto.

According to him, the readiness of the Rebana area as a new centre of economic growth is reinforced by a number of National Strategic Projects (PSN) that are already operating or continue to be developed. These include Patimban International Port, Kertajati Airport, the Cisumdawu Toll Road, the Cipanas Dam, and the Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Estate.

The Rebana area itself is one of the regional development projects driven by Presidential Regulation Number 87 of 2021. The area covers a number of strategic regions in West Java and is projected to become a hub for industry, logistics and the green economy.

The area’s appeal has grown increasingly evident following major incoming investments, including the BYD electric vehicle assembly plant inaugurated at the Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Estate.

The Rebana Area Management Agency (BP) recorded realised investment in the area at Rp36 trillion throughout 2025. Meanwhile, by the second quarter of 2026, incoming investment had reached Rp21.59 trillion, or around 30% of West Java’s total investment.

Ahmad Nugraha, Investment Promotion Coordinator at the Rebana Area Management Agency, said the area has been designed comprehensively with various strategic clusters ranging from manufacturing and aviation to tourism and education.

There are currently 13 industrial estates allocated in Rebana, eight of which are already operating.

Beyond that, the area is supported by more than 30 universities and around 500 vocational schools and training institutions projected to produce the workforce needed to support industrial expansion.

“With such support, the Rebana area is projected to create around 1.7 million to 1.8 million new jobs,” said Ahmad.

Takeda Sachiko, Chief Representative of the JICA Indonesia Office, considers Rebana one of the most important growth regions in Indonesia. According to her, Patimban International Port will become the main logistics gateway connecting West Java’s industry with both domestic and international markets.

Through technical cooperation with the Indonesian government, JICA has assisted in drawing up the master plan, strengthening coordination among stakeholders, and identifying priority programmes such as the Green Industry Hub.

The concept combines manufacturing development, renewable energy, human resource quality improvement, and decarbonisation targets.

In addition to green industry, the seminar also discussed investment opportunities in the circular economy, geothermal energy, floating solar panels on dams, smart technology, and the development of modern industrial estates.

The government hopes the various planning and cooperation outcomes that have been prepared can be followed up with concrete investment projects.

“In this way, the Rebana area is expected to become ever more capable of attracting quality investment while strengthening the links between industrial estates, strategic infrastructure and centres of economic activity in the region,” said Suroto.
