Japan donates Rp 20b to RI

MAGELANG, Central Java: The Japanese government donated a
total of Rp 20 billion to numerous grass-roots organizations in
rural areas across the country as a gesture to demonstrate the
two countries's good ties.

Japanese Ambassador Yukio Takeuchi made the statement at the
opening of the Pabelan Islamic boarding school in Magelang,
Central Java, on Monday.

The Islamic boarding school, built partly with the Japanese
grant, received US$85,970 (Rp 802 million), while the Japanese
government plans to provide further aid worth Rp 40 billion in
scholarships for 270,000 elementary and secondary school students
in the country. --JP
