Japan backs peaceful nuclear energy use in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi supports the use of peaceful nuclear energy in Malaysia, and welcomed updated information on nuclear introduction in the neighbouring country of Singapore and Indonesia. This was conveyed in a joint statement between Takaichi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, following a bilateral meeting in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday. “Both leaders agreed to cooperate in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy in Malaysia, while guaranteeing the highest standards of nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation,” the statement read. PM Takaichi welcomed updated information regarding Malaysia’s preparations to introduce nuclear power, including reactor technology options, site selection, as well as business and institutional arrangements, as a basis for formulating Japan’s support plan. Meanwhile, Anwar Ibrahim also welcomed Japan’s support in developing Malaysia’s capacity in the field of nuclear energy.
