Japan and Philippines Hold First ACSA Joint Exercise
The Japan Self-Defence Forces and the Philippine military have conducted a joint exercise focused on humanitarian assistance.
This joint exercise is the first implementation of an agreement that allows both nations to exchange defence supplies and logistical support, according to Japanese Minister of Defence Shinjiro Koystumi on Friday.
The six-day exercise, which began in the Philippines on Sunday (4/10), will feature the Philippine Air Force supplying fuel for Japan Self-Defence Force aircraft.
“The first implementation of this agreement is an important step and serves as a symbol that defence cooperation between the two countries has entered a new phase,” said Koizumi.
Japan and the Philippines, both allies of the United States, have been increasing their security cooperation in recent years in response to China’s stance in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.
