The visit by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Japan, where he met with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, resulted in various agreements. Prabowo and Sanae also agreed to make their best efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East. “Japan and Indonesia will make the best efforts to convince all parties (in the Middle East) to de-escalate tensions,” Prabowo explained, as quoted from Kompas.com on Tuesday (31/3/2026). Sanae explained that the Middle East conflict is shaking the stability of oil and gas supplies in the Asian region. “Given the situation in Iran, the strategic interests in resources and energy security are once again recognised globally. Indonesia is a major resource-rich country,” Takaichi stated during a press conference with President Prabowo. Due to shared interests in energy, the two countries agreed to cooperate in developing renewable energy. “I invite Japanese participation in Indonesia’s economy, including in the critical minerals sector, rare earths, industrialisation, and nuclear energy,” Prabowo explained. “The meeting between the two leaders serves as an important momentum to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various strategic sectors to support each country’s national interests,” he added. The two countries agreed to maintain regional stability amid global uncertainties. “Amid increasingly complex global geopolitical dynamics, the two countries, as close friends, also reaffirmed their commitment to continue playing a role as part of efforts to maintain regional stability and contribute to realising world peace,” he stated. It is known that after Japan, President Prabowo departed for South Korea.
