Japan adopts Balinese tale

JAKARTA: A Balinese fable has been translated into the Japanese language to be used as supplementary reading in elementary schools across Japan, Akihisa Matsuno of the Osaka University of Foreign Studies said in Denpasar, Bali, on Saturday.

"The Bulan Kuning (Yellow Moon) was printed in 1979 and has been reprinted every year since then. At least 60,000 Japanese children have read the book," Akihisa told participants of the 5th Balinese Language Congress.

Akihisa noted that the story was translated directly from Balinese into Japanese.-- Antara
