'Jamu' workers protest in Semarang

SEMARANG: About 200 employees of traditional herbal medicine
company Jamu Sido Muncul staged a protest here on Monday to
demand fair treatment.

"We stage a peaceful protest here. We just want to be treated
fairly ... with a proper chance to pray and enjoy our normal
rights," the workers said.

During the protest, scores of security personnel guarded the
company's compound.

The crowd dispersed peacefully after management promised to
take their demands into consideration. (har/edt)
