REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Investigators from the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) conducted searches at several locations in Jakarta and Kalimantan as part of the ongoing probe into a mining corruption case that has named coal tycoon Samin Tan (ST) as a suspect. On Monday (30/3/2026), investigators from the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) sealed and seized the coal mining sites and all operational assets of PT Asmin Koalindo Tuhup (AKT) in connection with the case.

Head of the Public Relations and Legal Information Centre (Kapuspenkum) of Kejagung, Anang Supriatna, explained that the searches by Jampidsus investigators had actually begun last Friday (27/3/2026). “Searches were carried out at several places and locations in West Java, Jakarta, Central Kalimantan, and also South Kalimantan,” Anang said at Kejagung in Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026). The searches also included the residence of suspect Samin Tan and his family.

Investigators, according to Anang, also searched the parent company of PT AKT, namely PT Borneo Lumbung Energi & Metal (BLEM), including other subsidiaries owned by suspect Samin Tan, such as PT ARTH, PT MCM, and the KSOP Office.

“From the results of these searches, investigators seized several pieces of evidence in the form of documents, electronic evidence, and physical evidence consisting of coal mining areas, operational mining vehicles, and other heavy equipment located at the mining sites,” Anang stated.

Anang presented documentation of the seizure of the coal mining sites and operational heavy equipment from companies owned by suspect Samin Tan. Investigators from the prosecutor’s office were seen seizing dozens of giant trucks for transporting coal, as well as other machines used for coal mining activities. Investigators also seized office areas and coal mining sites, along with giant tanks used for mining operations.

The case implicating Samin Tan actually originated from an investigation by the 2025 Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PKH). Spokesperson for Satgas PKH, Barita Simanjuntak, revealed that PT AKT is one of hundreds of mining and plantation companies inventoried for encroaching on state lands, including those operating in unlicensed areas. “This includes the company owned by suspect ST,” Barita said on Saturday (28/3/2026).

Satgas PKH had conducted direct checks and clarifications with Samin Tan and PT AKT regarding their illegal activities over nine years. It was found that PT AKT controlled at least 1,699 hectares (Ha) of coal mining area in Murung Raya Regency, Central Kalimantan, based on a mining concession (PKP2B) that had been revoked. From December 2025 to January 2026, Barita said, Satgas PKH had issued summonses and demanded administrative accountability for the illegal activities carried out by PT AKT.

Barita stated that Satgas PKH, formed by President Prabowo Subianto, required PT AKT to pay an administrative fine of Rp 4.24 trillion for mining and sales activities from 2017-2025. However, this administrative sanction was ignored by PT AKT.

As a result, Satgas PKH referred the investigation of PT AKT’s illegal activities to the legal realm. “This is part of the forest area enforcement process that was followed up in the legal domain by the Jampidsus team of the Attorney General’s Office to ensure law enforcement,” Barita said.
