Jampidsus Confident M Riza Chalid Can Be Captured and Tried in Indonesia
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) is optimistic that the fugitive in the corruption case, M Riza Chalid (MRC), can be captured from his hiding place abroad and tried in Indonesia. The Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of Kejagung, Febrie Adriansyah, stated that the investigation team already knows MRC’s whereabouts.
Currently, MRC holds suspect status in two corruption cases involving crude oil at PT Pertamina and refinery products of Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Petral). According to him, Polri’s NCB Interpol officers have also detected MRC’s location.
Febrie hopes that MRC will soon surrender to Kejagung and return to Indonesia to be held accountable for his actions. “Clearly, the focus now is on Interpol. With the determination of suspect status, everything will develop, and at least we will continue to pursue the assets belonging to the individual,” said Febrie in Jakarta on Sunday (12/4/2026).
From the start, MRC is suspected to be in one of the states of Malaysia. Regarding that information, Febrie admitted to having instructed his investigation team to always coordinate with other law enforcement authorities to capture and deport MRC to Indonesia.
However, Febrie is still keeping secret the actual location of the whereabouts of the “Oil King.” “Don’t reveal it (Riza Chalid’s whereabouts). He might run away again. But we already know his position. And we have asked Interpol to arrest him,” said Febrie.
The investigation at Jampidsus Kejagung has named MRC as a suspect in two different but related corruption cases. The first case involving MRC was announced by Jampidsus in July 2025. That case concerns the procurement of crude oil and refinery products by PT Pertamina’s subholding for the period 2018-2022.
