Jambi's Kerinci Mountain Slope Coffee Penetrates Malaysian Market

The entry of Kerinci Alko Coffee from Jambi further diversifies the range of Indonesian coffees that have previously entered the Malaysian market. Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Coffee originating from the slopes of Mount Kerinci in Jambi, with its distinctive strong flavour, has successfully penetrated the Malaysian market. The introduction of Kerinci coffee to Kuala Lumpur represents a success in economic diplomacy by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with Lewisgene Roasters Sdn Bhd, Isetan Kuala Lumpur (Isetan of Japan Sdn Bhd), and the Alko Kerinci Coffee Exporters Cooperative. “The entry of Alko Kerinci Coffee from Jambi further adds to the variety of Indonesian coffees that have previously entered the Malaysian market,” said the Economic Function Coordinator of the KBRI in Kuala Lumpur, Hendra P. Iskandar, in a statement in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. The entry of Alko Kerinci Coffee into the Malaysian market was marked by the event “A Coffee & Artisan Collective” held at Isetan KLCC, Kuala Lumpur, from 30 March to 8 April 2026. This event aims to introduce the richness of Indonesian coffee products and flavours, including Alko Kerinci Coffee from Jambi as well as other Indonesian coffees already in the Malaysian market, namely Toraja Coffee, Gayo Coffee, Mandheling Coffee, Toraja Coffee, and Lampung coffee. According to Hendra, the fairly high demand for Indonesian coffee demonstrates the flavour and quality of Indonesian coffee that is highly favoured by coffee lovers in Malaysia. Hendra conveyed that the presence of Alko Kerinci Coffee from Jambi in Malaysia is a form of collaboration between farmers who are members of the Alko Kerinci Coffee Exporters Cooperative in Jambi, Lewisgene Roasters Malaysia, and Isetan of Japan in Malaysia. Hendra stated that the promotion of Indonesian coffee is also being expanded into the creative economy sector, one of which is through the Duddells Lewisgene coffee shop, which is ready to promote various types of coffee-based beverages using Indonesian coffee in a package with promotions of modern fashion and Indonesian batik in the Malaysian market. Daisuke Yamai, General Manager of Isetan Kuala Lumpur, who attended the launch of Alko Kerinci Jambi Coffee, expressed his delight that Indonesian coffee can now be found and purchased by coffee lovers at Isetan KLCC. Yamai stated his readiness to present various forms of other Indonesian creative economy promotions. Meanwhile, Nielsen Lim, Founder of Lewisgene Roaster Sdn Bhd, who brought Alko Kerinci Jambi Coffee to the Malaysian market, acknowledged his long-standing love for Indonesian coffee because of its quality, aroma, and flavour diversity and richness that can be appreciated by coffee lovers. Through his Duddells Lewisgene coffee shop, Nielsen expressed his readiness to continue supporting the promotion of Indonesia’s creative economy in the Malaysian market through processed Indonesian coffees, which also demonstrates the close collaboration between the two kindred nations, Indonesia and Malaysia. Meanwhile, the coffee farmers who are members of the Alko Kerinci Coffee Exporters Cooperative in Jambi expressed their joy at the entry of Alko coffee into the Malaysian market. It is planned that shipments of Alko Kerinci Jambi Coffee to Malaysia will be carried out at least two containers every month as an initial stage.
