Jambi threatens to deport 355 Indian citizens

JAMBI: The immigration office here has threatened to deport 355 Indian citizens in the province who have overstayed there visas.

"So far, 355 Indian citizens who have been employed in numerous companies in the province have yet to extend their visas, which have been expiring. Those who are found guilty of violating the immigration law will be deported by force," Sjafrulla Djabarti, chief of the local immigration office, said here Tuesday.

He said that, so far, only 194 of more than 430 expatriates have come to the immigration office to extend their visas.

"Despite the registration deadline being extended until Nov. 14, 2001, no Indian citizens have registered," he said. --Antara
