Jambi serious in securing park

JAMBI, Jambi (JP): The governor has ordered staff members to
tighten security in Kerinci Seblat National Park, which is
threatened by illegal logging.

Spokesman for the Jambi provincial government, Fuad M. Yusuf,
said Saturday that the governor has ordered armed forces
personnel to arrest anyone found illegally felling trees in the
park.

The governor also ordered that logs stolen from the forest be
seized, the thieves captured and the middlemen brought to court,
Yusuf told Antara.

Local regents were ordered to act as soon as they received
information on illegal logging in the park which is home to
countless plant and animal species, Yusuf said. (pan)
