Jambi serious in securing park

JAMBI, Jambi (JP): The governor has ordered staff members to tighten security in Kerinci Seblat National Park, which is threatened by illegal logging.

Spokesman for the Jambi provincial government, Fuad M. Yusuf, said Saturday that the governor has ordered armed forces personnel to arrest anyone found illegally felling trees in the park.

The governor also ordered that logs stolen from the forest be seized, the thieves captured and the middlemen brought to court, Yusuf told Antara.

Local regents were ordered to act as soon as they received information on illegal logging in the park which is home to countless plant and animal species, Yusuf said. (pan)
