Jambi Provincial Government Finalises Location Designation for Jambi-Rengat Toll Road
The Jambi Provincial Government has finalised the location designation for the construction of the Jambi-Rengat toll road project, which connects Jambi Province to Riau Province, with physical works planned to commence in 2027.
“The location designation is complete and has been handed over to the relevant parties. Now, we only need to accelerate the land acquisition process, including the land compensation process,” said Jambi Governor Al Haris in Jambi on Tuesday.
The Governor explained that the location designation documents have now been submitted to the authorised agencies to proceed with the land procurement stages. The government aims to complete the entire land acquisition process by December 2026 so that physical construction can begin early the following year.
The construction of the Jambi-Rengat toll road is expected to improve inter-provincial connectivity across Sumatra and drive accelerated economic growth in the Jambi region and its surroundings.
“The target is to finish by December, because physical work will start in January,” added Al Haris.
Previously, during a preparatory meeting in mid-August 2026, the Secretary Deputy for Connectivity Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Rustam Efendi, stated that accelerating connectivity cannot happen in isolation and must involve multiple sectors. The meeting aimed to ensure all stakeholders shared a common understanding regarding the technical and administrative aspects to expedite the implementation of the Jambi–Rengat section of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS).
This project has been officially designated as a National Strategic Project (PSN), as stipulated in Appendix Number 14 of the Regulation of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Number 16 of 2025.
“This meeting was held to align perceptions and build a shared commitment regarding the procedures for accelerating the implementation of this JTTS section,” said Rustam.
The Jambi-Rengat toll road is planned to be divided into two sections. Section I connects Simpang Ness to Cinto Kenang (Muaro Jambi Regency) with a length of 18.75 kilometres. Meanwhile, Section II stretches from Bukit Cinto Kenang to Merlung (Muaro Jambi and Tanjung Jabung Barat Regencies) with a length of 48.70 kilometres.
The construction of the JTTS is supported by foreign loans from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The budget required to complete the construction of this toll road section reaches IDR 17 trillion.
The areas within Jambi Province that will be traversed by the Jambi-Rengat toll road include Pijoan, Tantan, Rantau Majo, Gerunggung, Bukit Baling, and Suko Awin Jaya in Muaro Jambi Regency. The toll route will also pass through Selat and Teluk villages in Batang Hari Regency, as well as Dusun Mudo village in the Muara Papalik District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency.
