Jambi police seize timber

JAMBI, Jambi: More than 2,800 cubic meters of timber were seized by the Rengas Bandung forest rangers in Batanghari regency, the Antara news agency reported on Saturday.

"We seized the logs upon learning that the actual quantity carried through the Batanghari river was more than the number written down on the transport document," Suharno, head of the rangers, said.

He said the counting included the logs which were seen floating on the river. Many more logs beneath the surface had not been reported on the document to avoid taxes, he added.

Jakfar, the owner of the tug boat, told the police that the logs belonged to PT Sad, a company warned by the Ministry of Forestry in September and October for the same offense.(imn)
