Jambi police probe women's demo

JAMBI: The Kerinci, Jambi, Police Precinct is still
investigating the recent demonstration by a group of women aimed
at stopping the police investigation into the theft of 50 trees
from the Kerinci Seblat National Park.

"We are carrying out the investigation to arrest those who
engineered the women's demonstration," Adj. Sr. Comr. Edi
Purwanto, chief of the police precinct, said here on Friday.

Around 500 women staged a demonstration at the police precinct
early this week, demanding the police stop their investigation
into the theft of 500 trees from the national park.

Edi said those who masterminded the demonstration would be
investigated and brought to justice, in line with the local
administration's fight against the rampant illegal logging in the
national park.

He warned that the police would also arrest the thieves'
accomplices and the local people who were protecting them.
