Jambi Police Investigate Billion-Rupiah Fraud in Police Recruitment
The Jambi Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Krisno H Siregar, has responded swiftly and firmly to an alleged fraud worth billions of rupiah in the recruitment process for National Police non-commissioned officers (Bintara Polri) for the 2026 fiscal year.
Through the Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Erlan Munaji, accompanied by the Head of Internal Affairs, Senior Commissioner Darno, on Thursday afternoon (6/8), it was stated that the case is being handled seriously and will be investigated transparently until completion.
Erlan explained that the report concerning the alleged fraud, which is said to involve two police officers from the Jambi Regional Police, has been handled by the Internal Affairs Division since 3 August 2026.
Erlan said that in handling the alleged fraud case, which involved promising to secure someone’s admission as a National Police NCO, Internal Affairs investigators have detained two officers suspected of involvement. They are identified by the initials Bripda MD and Briptu Y, who are believed to be from the Human Resources Bureau of the Jambi Regional Police.
“Both have been detained to undergo examination regarding the National Police professional code of ethics. The details of the losses are still being compiled by the Jambi Regional Police Internal Affairs team. We will wait for the results,” Erlan Munaji stated.
Meanwhile, the alleged crime modus operandi, according to Erlan, was promising success to candidates in the police recruitment selection process in exchange for a sum of money.
In parallel, Erlan added, the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jambi Regional Police is also conducting an investigation into the alleged criminal acts committed by the suspects involved.
Erlan Munaji conveyed that the Jambi Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Krisno H Siregar, has emphasised that the institution gives zero tolerance to any form of misconduct that undermines public trust, particularly in the police recruitment process.
The entire police recruitment process is carried out based on the BETAH principles (Clean, Transparent, Accountable and Humane). No one can guarantee success outside the established mechanisms.
Erlan Munaji urged members of the public who feel they have been victims of similar practices to report to the Jambi Regional Police for firm follow-up.
According to information gathered by Media Indonesia, the victims of the fraud in the 2026 Jambi Regional Police NCO recruitment are diverse. They are not only from the civilian community. In fact, more than a dozen victims are from the families of active police officers with commissioned ranks. Several of them hold strategic positions, such as sector police chiefs and heads of work units at district police stations.
Ironically, although the officer victims are believed to have been well aware that the police NCO recruitment process uses the BETAH principles (Clean, Transparent, Accountable and Humane), they nevertheless handed over hundreds of millions of rupiah to individuals at the Jambi Regional Police Human Resources Bureau to secure their children’s admission as police NCOs.
Meanwhile, from the reporting of this case that has shocked the Jambi public, the fraudsters from the Jambi Regional Police Human Resources Bureau managed to collect “smoothing” money varying between Rp500 million and Rp900 million per prospective student hoping for assistance.
The detailed value of the victims’ losses due to the fraud has not yet been obtained. However, according to information obtained by Media Indonesia, the amount of money deposited by the victims who have been recorded so far has reached Rp7 billion.
