Jambi Police have new patrol ship

JAMBI: The Jambi Provincial Police have a new patrol boat that will be used to fight against the rampant smuggling in the province.

Jambi Police chief Brig. Gen. Toto Soewali said the new boat would be deployed in the East Tanjung Jabung and West Tanjung Jabung regencies, which were high-risk areas for fuel and car smuggling.

"This year, the police were able to foil the smuggling of three luxury cars through the eastern coastal area to the regencies," he said here on Friday.

He said the new boat was bought to reinforce the existing three patrol boats and ten speedboats used to patrol the eastern coastal area.

He said that smuggling of fuel was also rampant in the coastal areas and transactions were conducted outside the province.

Toto said the police would also conduct an operation against the rampant piracy in the Jambi waters. He claimed that many fishermen had been robbed and killed by pirates. --Antara
