Jambi Mother Killed by Son Using Water Pump, Suspect Suspected of Mental Illness

A housewife (IRT) in Jambi City, identified as UK (52), was killed by her son FR (21) using a water pump. The suspect is suspected of having a mental disorder or is an ODGJ (person with mental disorder). “Yes, the incident occurred yesterday. The suspect, the victim’s biological son, has been detained,” said East Jambi Police Chief AKP Deddy Gaos, according to detikSumbagsel, Friday (29 May 2026). The incident occurred at RT 3, Sijenjang Village, East Jambi District, Jambi City, on Thursday (28 May) at 12:08 PM WIB. The suspect struck the victim’s head with a water pump, causing severe injuries. “The method involved using a water pump as a tool to strike the victim’s head,” he said. According to witness statements, there was a commotion between the suspect and victim during the incident. Upon checking, the witness found the victim lying unconscious in the kitchen with head injuries. Police immediately arrested the suspect, who was still inside the house. During questioning, the suspect was uncooperative, prompting police to coordinate with a psychiatric hospital for further proceedings. Deddy added that after detention, the suspect remained unresponsive to investigators. Family members stated he was undergoing psychiatric treatment at a hospital. “Based on the suspect’s sibling’s statement, he was receiving treatment at a psychiatric hospital, as evidenced by his treatment records,” he said.
