Jambi HAM Office Analyses Regional Regulations to Ensure No Human Rights Violations
The activity of analysing and evaluating regional regulations from a human rights perspective aims to identify existing regulations to assess their compliance with human rights principles. Jambi City (ANTARA) - The Jambi Regional Office of the Ministry of Human Rights (Kanwil HAM) Jambi, together with local government and practitioners, conducted a study and analysis of Regional Regulations (Perda) to ensure that these legal products are free from elements of human rights violations. “The activity of analysing and evaluating Perda from a human rights perspective aims to identify regulations that are already in force, in order to determine their suitability with human rights principles,” said the Head of the Jambi Regional Office (Kakanwil) HAM, Sukiman, in Jambi on Tuesday. According to him, the evaluation of local legal products is a crucial step to strengthen the government’s commitment to aligning regulations with humanitarian values. He explained that this evaluation is urgently needed given the dynamics of regulations, including the Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation (Permenkumham) Number 16 of 2024. That regulation requires the mainstreaming of human rights in every formation of legal products. “There are at least 30 human rights indicators that must be included in every legal product. If conflicting content is found, the Jambi Kanwil HAM will provide recommendations for improvements to the relevant local government,” he added. Sukiman emphasised the importance of two-way interaction in the forum. Participants not only receive material but are encouraged to conduct independent analyses of legal products in their respective regions. Through active involvement of all parties, Jambi Province is expected to produce regulations that are administratively orderly while protecting the basic rights of the community, especially vulnerable groups. “The recommendations from this evaluation can take the form of comprehensive improvements or revisions to be included in the legal product formation programme for the following year,” Sukiman concluded.
