Jambi Governor hopes Tapah oil and gas block transfer will boost production
Jambi Governor Al Haris hopes the transfer of the Tapah oil and gas working area from PetroChina International Jabung Ltd to Golden Heaven Jaya Tapah Indonesia, spanning Jambi and South Sumatra provinces, will succeed in boosting production. “We hope that going forward, under the control of the new company in the Tapah block, oil lifting at the location can increase,” Al Haris said in Jambi on Tuesday. He explained that the working area was previously managed by PetroChina, and after the contract period expired, management of the working area was returned to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through SKK Migas, until it was finally officially handed over to the new company. Beyond pursuing production targets, the governor hopes the new management can absorb local workers to provide an economic impact for surrounding communities. Fatah Riani Abdul Rahman, management of Golden Heaven Jaya Tapah Indonesia, stated a commitment to optimising the oil and gas potential in the Tapah working area. According to him, the current prospective oil and gas resources in the area are estimated at around 400 million barrels of oil equivalent. As an initial step, the company plans to conduct field review activities and carry out three-dimensional seismic exploration surveys in areas that have been identified to obtain new reserve potential that has so far been unseen. He continued that after the signing of the joint agreement, the construction process and production preparation will follow. These activities are planned to commence next year, with the earliest commercial target in 2027 or by early 2028. In the long term, the company is targeting production figures exceeding 2,000 barrels of oil per day, supported by the latest technology and more comprehensive data utilisation. Management assured that the presence of this oil and gas industry will involve local talent going forward, in line with the wishes of the regional government. “We are continuing and will further develop to increase production,” Fatah explained. Previously, the government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, announced the winners of the direct offer tender for nine oil and gas working areas, including the Tapah Working Area.
