Jambi Governor Furious Over Subsidised Fuel Used for Illegal Mining
Jambi Governor Al Haris has spotlighted the misallocation of subsidised fuel oil (BBM), which is “leaking” or not reaching its intended targets because it is being diverted to industrial activities, particularly illegal mining operations.
Al Haris said he had received reports about rogue elements who boldly use fuel allocated for the public for personal gain in the mining sector.
“Yesterday we received a report that subsidised BBM was being sent to illegal mines, and some of the culprits were caught by the police,” stressed Governor Al Haris in Jambi on Tuesday (24/3), quoted from Antara.
In fact, this potential for fraud is always warned against—do not use subsidised BBM for industry.
Al Haris regrets that there are still “naughty” rogue elements who buy subsidised BBM at petrol stations for illegal mining purposes. His side has asked all managers and petrol station staff to be consistent and disciplined in distributing BBM allocations.
Considering that subsidised fuel is the right of the wider public, not for large companies that have the financial capacity to buy non-subsidised BBM.
Al Haris hopes that with stricter supervision from petrol station parties and firm action from law enforcement apparatus, the distribution of subsidised BBM in Jambi Province can be more on target and minimise illegal mining practices that harm the region.
In addition, his side appreciates the police’s steps in arresting several rogue perpetrators of subsidised fuel misuse.
“We ask petrol station staff not to get involved either; they must be consistent to prioritise the public. That’s their right; don’t give it to companies because they have plenty of money,” he said.
Jambi Province receives an allocation of certain types of fuel oil (JBT) for Biosolar of 336,013 kilolitres (Kl) and 426,539 Kl allocation of special assignment fuel oil types (JBKP) for Pertalite.
Up to the end of February 2026, the JBT absorbed is 55,461 Kl or 16 percent. Meanwhile, JBKP absorption up to the end of the same month is realised at 69,306 Kl, at 16 percent position.
