Jambi government anticipate flooding

JAMBI, Jambi: The city administration is preparing tens of thousands of sand bags and cables in anticipation of the possible flooding of Batanghari River in the coming weeks, an official said. The preparation is seen as necessary as it has rained in the city for the past few days, said Nino Guritno, the chief of the provincial administration's irrigation section.

The sand bags secured with cables will be put on the river banks to prevent the flooding of houses, said Nino.

The government has called on residents to prepare for possible flooding although the water level of Batanghari River has remained below 13.30 meters. Batanghari is the largest river in Jambi province. -- Antara
