Jambi Customs Seizes 223,692 Illegal Cigarettes in Kerinci and Sungai Penuh
Jambi Customs and Excise continues to monitor the circulation of illegal cigarettes. During surveillance activities in Kerinci Regency and Sungai Penuh City, officers successfully took action against 223,692 illegal cigarettes that were not affixed with excise stamps. In addition, as of August 2026, Jambi Customs and Excise has taken action against more than 5 million illegal cigarettes.
The surveillance was carried out by Jambi Customs and Excise together with Denpom II/2 Jambi through market operation activities targeting a number of wholesale shops and retail traders. In addition to conducting inspections, officers also provided education regarding excise regulations to business operators.
From the results of field inspections, officers found 223,692 cigarettes of various brands that were not affixed with excise stamps. All goods resulting from the enforcement action were then secured and taken to the Jambi Customs and Excise Office for further investigation in accordance with applicable regulations.
Head of the Jambi Customs and Excise Office, Dafit Kasianto, explained that the enforcement action further adds to Jambi Customs and Excise’s surveillance achievements throughout 2026. Up to August, the number of illegal cigarettes that have been subject to enforcement reached 5,943,988 sticks with estimated state losses of Rp 4.61 billion. Meanwhile, ultimum remedium fines recorded reached Rp 1.24 billion.
According to Dafit, the results of surveillance in Kerinci and Sungai Penuh also demonstrate the importance of synergy between Customs and Excise and law enforcement officials in monitoring the circulation of illegal excisable goods.
In addition to carrying out enforcement actions, Jambi Customs and Excise also provided understanding to traders regarding the role of tobacco products excise as one source of state revenue. The public was also given information regarding the impact of illegal cigarette circulation as well as sanctions that can be imposed for violations of excise regulations.
Compared to the 2025 achievement, the number of illegal cigarettes subject to enforcement by Jambi Customs and Excise up to August 2026 increased by 58.6 percent, from the previous 3,746,744 sticks. An increase was also recorded in ultimum remedium fines, which reached 622.4 percent.
Jambi Customs and Excise invites traders and the public to participate in eradicating the circulation of illegal cigarettes by not selling or buying tobacco products that do not comply with regulations. This step is considered important to support state revenue while creating fair and healthy trade.
