Jambi Container Flow Rises 22.5%, IPC TPK: Demonstrates Strategic Role of the Port

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Container flow at IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) in the Jambi area rose significantly in March 2026.

This increase reflects the strengthening of national logistics activity, particularly in meeting goods distribution needs ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

Based on operational data, the throughput volume reached 2,775 TEUs, up 22.5 percent from the same period last year at 2,265 TEUs.

This rise illustrates the strategic role of the port as a distribution hub for goods, both for domestic needs and foreign trade.

“We continue to accelerate loading and unloading services and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders to ensure smooth goods flow,” he said in a written statement on Friday (17/4/2026).

IPC TPK also bolstered operational readiness through improved human resource competency and optimisation of loading and unloading equipment, particularly to anticipate demand surges.

Wedhar added that the container terminal plays a strategic role in the national logistics system.

“Ports are drivers of national logistics efficiency. Good performance in the regions will directly contribute to national economic competitiveness,” he said.

This performance aligns with the solid trade conditions in Jambi Province. In January 2026, the region’s export value was recorded at US$152.92 million, far exceeding imports of US$11.16 million. The trade surplus is supported by flagship commodities such as palm oil derivatives, rubber, and forestry products.

The container flow surge was primarily driven by increased domestic distribution. Cement shipments rose in line with accelerated infrastructure development in the Jambi area and surrounding regions.

Additionally, distribution of staple goods such as rice, flour, as well as food and beverages, also increased to meet public needs ahead of Lebaran.

On the other hand, imports dominated by machinery and industrial equipment indicate ongoing production activity. This signals that the real sector in the region remains dynamic and requires efficient logistics system support.

The increase in Jambi’s container flow reaffirms the importance of port infrastructure in maintaining goods supply stability while supporting inclusive economic growth.
