Jalan Swadaya II in Cilincing is Damaged, Surface Full of Potholes and Uneven
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The condition of Jalan Swadaya II, Semper Timur, Cilincing, North Jakarta, near Jalan Raya Cakung Cilincing, is severely damaged and filled with potholes.
Based on observations by Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday (7/4/2026), the road, spanning around 650 metres, is damaged almost entirely, with numerous potholes and a wavy surface.
Much of the road surface now consists of soil, gravel, and remnants of peeled asphalt. This condition also makes the road dusty, especially when traversed by vehicles.
Despite the damage, large vehicles such as trucks and box trucks continue to pass through the road. Meanwhile, motorcyclists are seen driving very cautiously and slowing down to avoid the potholes.
Wulandari (35), one of the local residents, said that the road has never been fully repaired. The repairs carried out so far have only been patchwork using asphalt.
“The repairs aren’t done properly all at once; it’s still just sticking bits on, patching it like that. Last time, after it was reported in the news, someone came to fix it. But after that, it’s like this again,” she said when met by Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday.
She revealed that several riders often fall due to the potholed and uneven road.
“Yes, slipping like that happens often, but no serious injuries, none. Hopefully not (serious injuries). Because when the road is like this, no one dares to speed,” she explained.
She assessed that the damage on Jalan Swadaya II worsens during rain because the area is frequently flooded.
“If it rains, the flooding here is severe. Motorcycles even stall when coming here during floods,” she told Kompas.com on Tuesday.
Endang hopes that the government will soon carry out comprehensive repairs so that residents’ activities are not continuously disrupted.
“Yes, it’s disrupted. If there’s flooding, it’s definitely disrupted. Yes, hopefully it gets built (road repairs) soon,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Road, Bridge, and Road Facilities Section of the North Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-Department (SDBM), Budi Cahyo Wardoyo, explained that the road section is not owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government but by private entities.
Nevertheless, he stated that the Road Infrastructure agency is still assisting with road repairs using scrap materials. However, repair efforts cannot be carried out at this time.
He assured that his side will follow up on the location after the weather conditions stabilise and scrap materials are available.
“We will follow up on that location after the weather conditions start to stabilise and scrap materials are available,” he said.
