A flood measuring one metre in depth submerged Jalan Raya Regency in Pasar Kemis District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Monday 9 March. As a result, the connecting route between Tangerang City and Tangerang Regency became impassable for vehicles.

According to monitoring by CNNIndonesia.com at the location, floodwaters covered approximately one kilometre of Jalan Raya Regency. The situation forced commuters travelling from Periuk District in Tangerang City towards Pasar Kemis, and vice versa, to detour and seek alternative routes.

At the flooded site, no boats were available to assist residents’ mobility in the area. Some residents were forced to wade through the floodwaters on foot to cross the submerged road.

“This is the second flood this year. We also experienced flooding on Jalan Regency back in January,” said one commuter named Hidayat.

Meanwhile, Commander of the Pasar Kemis Station Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Joko Murjito, stated that the flooding resulted from high-intensity rainfall that had battered the area since Saturday 7 March.

“The length of the flooded road is approximately one kilometre, so it is completely impassable,” said Joko.

Joko revealed that flood mitigation efforts remained hampered by water pump equipment that could not be operated because the electrical supply in the area had been cut off.

As a result, Joko appealed to commuters to use alternative roads temporarily until the floodwaters recede.

“However, today we will try to coordinate with the State Electricity Company (PLN) to restore electrical supply in areas already safe from flooding,” he explained.
