JAKTV Strengthens Broadcast Security System Following Obscene Content Incident

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The local Jabodetabek television channel, JAKTV, is strengthening its broadcast security system following a disruption that caused the appearance of content with obscene material. JAKTV Director Soemarsono stated in an official release in Jakarta on Monday that since the incident was identified, JAKTV has undertaken a number of handling measures, including halting the unauthorised broadcast and temporarily suspending broadcasting activities as a security precaution. Soemarsono conveyed that his party also conducted an initial examination of the related systems and devices, submitted a report to the Metro Jaya Regional Police, and coordinated with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Jakarta Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID), and the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN). He added that JAKTV has accepted and respects the decision of the Jakarta KPID, which has imposed an administrative sanction in the form of a written reprimand against JAKTV regarding the event. “We understand that this decision serves as an important reminder of JAKTV’s responsibility as a broadcasting institution to maintain a broadcasting space that is safe, healthy, orderly, and in accordance with applicable broadcasting regulations. We realise that this incident should not have happened,” said Soemarsono. On this occasion, he once again expressed his sincerest apologies to all viewers, the public, parents, families, partners, and all parties who felt uncomfortable, disturbed, or harmed by the broadcast of said viewing material. Soemarsono stated that input from all viewers is an important part of the media’s efforts to improve. Previously, a broadcasting disruption occurred at JAKTV on Monday (1/6). This caused the appearance of unauthorised broadcasts and inappropriate material that were not part of JAKTV’s official programmes, editorial material, or broadcasts.
