Jakpus City Government to Oversee Labour Day Commemoration

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta City Government has expressed its readiness to oversee the Labour Day or May Day commemoration falling on 1 May through inter-agency cooperation to ensure the celebrations run safely and smoothly. “Facing this year’s May Day, information indicates the central point remains in the Central Jakarta area, so we must naturally maintain greater vigilance,” said Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin in Jakarta on Wednesday. Arifin stated that to welcome May Day or Labour Day, his apparatus has held meetings to unify missions, where the discussions covered Jaga Jakarta, anticipating and preventing unwanted actions, as well as securing May Day 2026. According to him, the Central Jakarta area has several locations frequently used for demonstrations. Therefore, it naturally requires different treatment from other areas in Jakarta. “We in Central Jakarta, in carrying out our duties, must be more anticipatory, must have more valid and rapid early detection capabilities,” he said. He stated that synergy and collaboration must continue to be intensified, so that security and order in Central Jakarta will remain well-maintained and conducive. Arifin added that based on available information, there are three locations that will become demonstration points: Bundaran Patung Kuda, the MPR/DPR building, and GBK. Thus, those points will later receive enhanced security, not only for the demonstrators but also for the vendors. “The Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Directorate needs to manage and engineer traffic, as well as related to parking for the demonstrators’ vehicles,” he added.
