Jakpro Accelerates Jakarta's Global City Connectivity Through LRT Phase 1B

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s municipally-owned enterprise (BUMD), PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda) or Jakpro, is accelerating the construction of the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B Velodrome–Manggarai line as part of efforts to support Jakarta’s transformation into a global city. This was conveyed directly by Jakpro President Director Iwan Takwin whilst accompanying DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during an inspection of the LRT Phase 1B construction progress at Rawamangun Station, East Jakarta, on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. He explained that accessibility is a key indicator of a global city. This must be supported by an integrated public transport system capable of facilitating community mobility. ‘One of the indicators of a global city is accessibility, and one form of accessibility is transport. Jakpro, through the development of the Jakarta LRT network, is striving to support this,’ he said. He emphasised that the LRT network expansion is part of Jakpro’s commitment to providing reliable, safe, and comfortable public transport. The project is expected to enhance accessibility, encourage the public to switch to public transport, and support Jakarta’s journey towards becoming a global city. ‘With this LRT, the people of Jakarta will find it easier to access various areas, and connectivity will also be more comfortable. This is our form of support so that Jakarta can rise to become a global city,’ he said. ‘The hope is that with this construction acceleration, Jakarta can enter the top 50 global cities.’ As of mid-July 2026, the construction progress of the 6.4-kilometre line has reached 95 per cent and is targeted to begin operations in August 2026. With the operation of the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B next month, the total Jakarta LRT track from Pegangsaan Dua to Manggarai will reach 12.2 kilometres with 11 stations. The six stations already in operation are Pegangsaan Dua, Boulevard Utara, Boulevard Selatan, Pulomas, Equestrian, and Velodrome. From Velodrome, the line will connect to five new stations: Rawamangun, Pramuka, Kayu Manis, Matraman, and Manggarai. Iwan explained that once operational, the Jakarta LRT connected to Manggarai is targeted to serve around 80,000 passengers daily. This capacity is expected to help reduce traffic congestion whilst increasing public transport usage in Jakarta. To ensure operational readiness, Jakpro President Director Iwan Takwin and DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung conducted a trial journey on the Jakarta LRT. The delegation departed from Pegangsaan Dua Station, passed through the six existing stations, then continued the journey to Rawamangun, Pramuka, and Kayu Manis stations before returning to stop at Rawamangun Station.
