Jakota prepares backup traffic system after Bapenda building fire
The Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared a backup system to manage traffic and maintain transport regulation following the fire at the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) building.
“Yesterday at the time of the incident I had already coordinated with the Head of the Transportation Agency, and ultimately we and I have approved the Data and Information Centre (Pusdatin) in MT Haryono as a backup to run that,” said Pramono in the HR Rasuna Said area, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Sunday.
Pramono said the fire affected the operations of the Jakarta Transportation Agency’s Command Centre, which is located on the 16th floor.
The 16th floor has an important function in monitoring and regulating Jakarta’s transport automatically. One of the main functions of the facility is to support the regulation of vehicle movement, including transport for Very Very Important Person (VVIP) guests.
According to Pramono, the situation was immediately followed up after the fire occurred. He immediately coordinated with the Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency to ensure that the transport regulation function did not stop due to disruption to the main facility.
In addition, in the coming period, Pramono said, some transport regulation will not be carried out through a fully integrated system as before.
“So as not to experience obstacles, I have approved the backup in MT Haryono to be switched on,” said Pramono.
Furthermore, Pramono revealed that one of the potential impacts is on traffic regulation at a number of intersections that use traffic lights.
Under normal conditions, regulation of a number of traffic points can be carried out automatically or remotely through a system connected to the control centre.
However, due to the disruption to the Transportation Agency’s facilities, the government will strengthen field personnel to anticipate points that require direct handling.
“What will be slightly disrupted in the next few days is matters relating to regulation at the Transportation Agency, especially at intersections that use traffic lights,” said Pramono.
Transportation Agency officers will be deployed at a number of intersections that require direct regulation. The measure is being taken to maintain the quality of traffic services while the main system is in the recovery process.
“At most this morning I happened to have already spoken with the Head of the Transportation Agency, hopefully within one month at most everything will be completed,” said Pramono.
With this scheme, the Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that disruption to public mobility can be minimised as much as possible.
“But hopefully it will not disrupt the transport and traffic process in Jakarta,” said Pramono.
