Jakbar-Tangerang City Governments Strengthen Synergy in Infrastructure and Transportation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Barat City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) and Tangerang City Government are strengthening synergy in cross-regional infrastructure and transportation development to support connectivity and the economic resilience of the area.
Jakarta Barat Mayor Iin Mutmainah stated that road construction plays a strategic role in opening access between regions and strengthening community economic activities.
“Building roads is equivalent to building civilisation. Roads open connectivity between regions so that economic activities can run more optimally,” said Iin during the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled “Infrastructure Transformation in Supporting Economic Acceleration” in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to her, infrastructure sustainability cannot rely solely on physical construction but also requires joint maintenance between the government, the community, and road users.
For this reason, she emphasised the importance of collaboration with supporting regions, particularly Tangerang City, given the high daily mobility of people in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).
“Regional problems cannot be solved alone. Collaboration is needed to avoid friction in development implementation,” said Iin.
She explained that cross-regional communication has been conducted in plans for border area development, such as Kembangan and Joglo, so that development policies can run in harmony.
“Budgets cannot rely solely on the Regional Budget (APBD). Alternative financing is needed so that development continues,” said Iin.
Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Barat Road Infrastructure Sub-Department Taufik Hendayana explained that cross-regional coordination has actually been carried out for a long time, but not yet fully bound in a formal framework.
“Inter-regional coordination has often been done, but formally it has not been maximal yet. Going forward, this is what we will push for,” said Taufik.
He assessed that Transit Oriented Development (TOD)-based area development in Jakarta Barat directly intersects with Tangerang City areas, one of which is in the Jalan Basoka area.
He also emphasised the need for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between regions to support urban integration, provision of green open spaces, and creative financing development.
“Even though the assets are under the Road Infrastructure Department, their utilisation can be prepared for sustainable green spaces or to support the economic sector,” added Taufik.
On the other hand, Taufik revealed that the ongoing flood control project in the Jalan Salak II area requires additional infrastructure support, from relocating early warning signs to building technical channels.
“This infrastructure overlaps, so an MoU is important to avoid obstacles in the field,” said Taufik.
“The hope is, of course, that the community can switch to using safe and comfortable mass transportation, connected to Transjakarta, KRL, and airport trains,” said Damanik.
In the forum, social media activist Budi Siwono proposed the formation of a more integrated cross-area infrastructure development coordination body.
The high mobility of the Jabodetabek community, according to him, requires a stronger coordination system so that development runs effectively while supporting economic growth.
“This FGD should not stop here. Besides the community and regional stakeholders, unifying understanding among regional apparatus is also very important,” concluded Budi.
Furthermore, Chairman of the Jakarta Care Youth Forum (FPPJ) Endriansyah viewed road infrastructure as an important instrument in the urban economic system.
“Road infrastructure is not just a facility, but a strategic instrument in driving economic acceleration,” said Rian.
He also assessed that road quality directly affects the efficiency of goods distribution, labour mobility, and city competitiveness.
“Therefore, I want this FGD to produce strategic recommendations to strengthen regional connectivity and the economic resilience of Jakarta Barat through integrated and sustainable infrastructure development,” said Rian.
