Jakarta – The Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing a cooperation scheme for managing a Waste-to-Energy Plant (PLTSa) involving the Danantara investment-management body and private sector players in waste processing. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the PLTSa management scheme is still under discussion. In the future, management will be conducted jointly by the Jakarta Government, Danantara, and private operators in the waste-processing sector. ‘Soon, the Danantara, the PLTSa players, and of course the Jakarta Government will codify this. The three parties are responsible for managing issues related to PLTSa,’ Pramono said at the City Hall on Wednesday (20/5/2026). However, the figures may still change as the matter is being discussed. ‘The most important thing is that the government has issued a Government Regulation (PP) regarding a tariff of 20 sen. This is for reference,’ he said. Pramono emphasised that whether the PLTSa project makes a profit will depend heavily on on-site implementation, including operating costs and technical costs between the parties. ‘Ultimately, whether there is profit or not is a matter for the field,’ he said. Although still being studied, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government remains supportive of PLTSa development as a way to reduce Jakarta’s waste pile-up. In addition to PLTSa, Jakarta also has a Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) processing facility in Rorotan and Bantar Gebang that has been operating earlier. The government hopes that this cooperation will enable more orderly waste management in Jakarta. Daily waste accumulation could decrease gradually. ‘If this runs smoothly, God willing, the waste problems in Jakarta, the waste balance which used to be almost 9,000 per day, will be absorbed in the field,’ Pramono said.
