Jakarta's useless
overpass bridges

From Warta Kota

People often avoid using pedestrian bridges that cross main
roads because these facilities were not built in their proper
locations. In some places in Jakarta, so few pedestrians cross
such bridges that they are virtually useless.

For example, the bridge at Pasar Baru is located too far from
the shopping area exit gate and the opposite end of the bridge is
not close enough to the local bus stop, either.

On the other hand, the bridges at Jatinegara, Mal Taman
Anggrek, Mal Ciputra, Gajah Mada Plaza and Cawang are always
teeming with people because of their strategic siting.

Clearly, it is not that simple to plan the siting of
pedestrian bridges in order to maximize their benefit. These
facilities should guarantee convenience for the public, as well
as ensure security against threats from criminals.
