The Jakarta Education Agency (Disdik) has announced that the implementation of the New Student Admission System (SPMB) for the 2026/2027 academic year will accommodate 245,980 new pupils across state schools, the joint SPMB scheme, and free private schools.

Head of the Jakarta Education Agency, Nahdiana, stated that the SPMB 2026/2027 has been designed to ensure every child in Jakarta has an equal opportunity to access quality education. “The SPMB for the 2026/2027 academic year is being implemented to ensure that new student admissions are more objective, transparent, and inclusive,” she said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

The implementation of the SPMB for the 2026/2027 academic year refers to Governor’s Decree Number 238 of 2026 concerning Technical Guidelines for New Student Admissions. Its scope covers new student admissions at state educational units for early childhood education (PAUD), primary schools (SD), junior secondary schools (SMP), senior secondary schools (SMA), vocational secondary schools (SMK), special needs schools (SLB), and community learning centres (SKB), as well as private schools through the Joint SPMB and Free Private School SPMB schemes.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, the capacity of state educational units reaches 228,163 new students. The breakdown includes 6,310 pupils for PAUD, 95,965 for SD, 73,289 for SMP, 29,337 for SMA, 19,541 for SMK, 891 for SLB, and 2,830 for SKB. Meanwhile, the Joint SPMB, involving 298 private schools, provides capacity for 7,708 new students, comprising 1,597 for SMP, 2,519 for SMA, and 3,592 for SMK. The Free Private School SPMB, involving 103 schools, provides capacity for 10,109 new students across SD, SMP, SMA, SMK, and SLB levels.

The SPMB 2026/2027 offers four admission pathways: achievement, affirmation, domicile, and transfer. The achievement pathway is for prospective students with academic or non-academic accomplishments. The affirmation pathway is intended for prospective students from underprivileged families. The domicile pathway considers the proximity of the student’s residence to the school, distribution of domiciles, and school capacity. The transfer pathway is for children whose parents have been reassigned to new posts, as well as children of teachers or education staff who wish to attend school where their parents work.

In terms of mechanism, the SPMB is conducted online for state primary, junior secondary, senior secondary, and vocational schools, as well as private schools participating in the Joint SPMB. For PAUD, SLB, and SKB, the process is carried out in a hybrid format, combining online and offline methods. The Free Private School SPMB is conducted entirely offline.

The stages of account submission and family card verification have been carried out in phases, starting with primary school level on 18 May 2026, junior secondary school on 25 May 2026, and senior secondary and vocational schools on 2 June 2026. Registration for new student admissions is scheduled to begin on 15 June 2026.

Nahdiana stressed that the entire SPMB process is free of charge and does not accept any form of gratuity. “We emphasise that the SPMB is free of charge and no gratuities of any kind are permitted. We urge the public to pay close attention to the schedule, follow official procedures, and not trust information from channels other than the official Education Agency platforms,” she said.
