Jakarta's Regional Secretary stresses preserving the spirit of national awakening in the digital age

Jakarta — The Jakarta Regional Secretary, Uus Kuswanto, has stressed that the spirit of national awakening must be kept alive by adapting to the challenges of the era, including addressing information sovereignty issues and digital transformation.

‘National Awakening Day is a moment to reflect on the spirit of unity and the struggle of the nation since the establishment of Budi Utomo in 1908. This underlines the importance of protecting the younger generation as the fundamental foundation for maintaining national independence and sovereignty,’ Uus said as he served as the Inspector of the National Awakening Day ceremony at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

He stated that the central and regional governments continue to strengthen collaboration to realise the protection of children in the digital space through full implementation of PP Tunas, including delaying access to social media for children under 16.

He added that this moment must orient every development step toward collective progress.

‘National awakening belongs to all Indonesian people, beginning with individual awareness, growing collectively, and culminating in the nation’s advancement on a global level,’ Uus said.

As is known, Minister of Communications and Digital No. 9 of 2026 acts as the implementing regulation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of the Administration of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) and takes effect from 28 March 2026.

The regulation limits children from various high-risk digital platforms, particularly the initial eight platforms: YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
