Jakarta's PPDB 2026 Runs Smoothly, Pramono Promises More Free Private Schools

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that the 2026 Penerimaan Peserta Didik Baru (PPDB) student admission process has run relatively smoothly. As the selection process nears completion, the Jakarta Provincial Government has recorded very few public complaints. “Alhamdulillah, up to now, there have been relatively few complaints or objections from the public, very few indeed,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday (13/7). He noted that he had received a report from the Head of the Jakarta Education Office confirming that the process had gone according to expectations, crediting the transparent and open system for the lack of issues. “I received a report from the Head of the Education Office that because the system is transparent and open, it has run relatively well. There are practically no complaints about it,” he added.

Looking ahead, Pramono confirmed plans to expand the free private school programme, which currently operates in 103 schools. He assured that the number of participating schools would increase, though the expansion is subject to further discussion with the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) regarding budget readiness and implementation mechanisms. “Currently, there are 103 schools, and there will definitely be an increase. We will discuss this further with the DPRD,” he said. The programme is seen as a concrete solution for schools where the majority of students come from underprivileged families.
