Jakarta's 'Padat Karya' Programme Attracts 132,627 Job Seekers

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has recorded that 132,627 people applied for 2,843 vacancies opened through the Padat Karya (labour-intensive) programme. Governor Pramono Anung has assured that the selection process is being conducted transparently, without any nepotism. “The DKI Jakarta government is opening job vacancies as a social safety net. Currently, the first and second phases have been completed for 2,843 vacancies, with 132,627 applicants,” Governor Pramono Anung said in Jakarta on Thursday. Pramono stated that out of the hundreds of thousands of applicants, some are still in the application process while others have already been accepted. He guaranteed that the recruitment process for the Padat Karya programme is transparent and free from “entrusted individuals”. “Everything is transparent, and I have asked the respective agency heads to be the final decision-makers so there is no favouritism. This is because the programme is genuinely intended as a social safety net during these times of economic pressure,” he said. Registration for the first phase of the Padat Karya programme will close on 25 and 26 June 2026. The announcement will then be made on 27 June 2026, which also marks the opening of registration for the second phase. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has opened 2,843 vacancies through the Padat Karya programme, which will be implemented in stages as a social safety net for Jakarta residents in need. The programme follows up on Governor Pramono Anung’s directive to expand job opportunities for Jakarta residents. Through this programme, urban development and maintenance activities are expected to provide direct economic benefits while serving as temporary support for communities requiring additional income. Programme participants work through third parties or implementing contractors for each activity. They are not recruited under the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government employee scheme or as Individual Other Service Providers (PJLP). Four regional agencies are opening job opportunities in the labour-intensive sector: the Highways Agency, the Parks and Urban Forest Agency, the Water Resources Agency, and the Environmental Agency.
