JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Jakarta Provincial Government is temporarily suspending the odd-even vehicle licence plate restriction system during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period in 2026. The policy has been implemented to ease public mobility for those travelling and visiting relatives during the extended holiday break.

During this period, vehicles with both odd and even licence plate numbers will be permitted to travel across all road sections that normally implement the traffic restriction system.

“The odd-even restriction during the Eid holiday is being suspended, from 18 March through 24 March 2026,” said Syafrin when contacted by Kompas.com recently.

The decision was made after considering the national holiday periods and joint leave arrangements established by the government this year.

Furthermore, the policy is based on the Jakarta Governor Regulation (Pergub) No. 88 of 2019 Article 3 subsection (3) regarding traffic restrictions using the odd-even system. The regulation stipulates that traffic restrictions using the odd-even system are not enforced on Saturdays, Sundays, and National Holidays as determined by Presidential Decree.

The period from 18 to 24 March 2026 not only coincides with the Eid al-Fitr holiday but also falls during the celebration of Nyepi, the Hindu Day of Silence, which marks the Saka New Year 1948. This concurrent religious observance also influenced the government’s decision to temporarily suspend the odd-even vehicle restriction policy in the Jakarta metropolitan area.
