Jakarta's Odd-Even Policy Suspended for Independence Day on 17 August
Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day is celebrated on 17 August 2026 and has been designated as a national holiday. In connection with this, Jakarta’s odd-even traffic policy will be suspended.
“In connection with the Commemoration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the implementation of the Odd-Even policy in Jakarta is SUSPENDED on 17 August 2026,” stated the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI Jakarta) via its Instagram account @dishubdkijakarta.
The suspension is based on:
Joint Decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs, Minister of Manpower, and Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1497 of 2025, Number 2 of 2025, Number 5 of 2025 concerning National Holidays and Collective Leave for 2026; and
Jakarta Gubernatorial Regulation No. 88 of 2019 Article 3 paragraph (3): Traffic restrictions using the odd-even system are not enforced on Saturdays, Sundays and NATIONAL HOLIDAYS established by Presidential Decree.
TransJ, MRT, and LRT Jakarta fares Rp 1 on 17 August
In the framework of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, public transport fares in Jakarta will be only Rp 1 on 17 August. The following are the terms and conditions.
The Rp 1 Public Transport Fare applies to Transjakarta services (BRT, Non-BRT, Transjabodetabek), MRT Jakarta and LRT Jakarta (Velodrome - Pegangsaan Dua route)
All users of Transjakarta, MRT Jakarta and LRT Jakarta can enjoy the Rp 1 Public Transport Fare
Payment methods used:
Electronic Money Cards (Bank Mandiri E-Money, Bank BCA-Flazz, Bank BNI - Tap Cash, Bank BRI - Brizzi, JakLingko Card, KMT, Jakcard)
JakLingko and MyMRTJ applications
Mikrotrans services, Transjakarta Cares (other Jakarta Transport assignment services), as well as free services for the public based on Jakarta Gubernatorial Regulation No. 133 of 2018 concerning Free Transjakarta Services and Free Buses for certain communities that already have a Rp 0 fare remain valid according to the original fare.
Is 18 August a holiday?
Citing the Joint Decree of 3 Ministers concerning National Holidays and Collective Leave 2026, 18 August 2026 is not a public holiday even though it is close to the Independence Day holiday. There is no collective leave to commemorate Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.
