Jakarta's Nightlife Glitz and Alleged Drug Den

The raid on the B-Fashion nightlife venue in West Jakarta has once again brought scrutiny to the oversight of night entertainment businesses in Jakarta. The case has not only resulted in the revocation of operating licences but has also raised suspicions regarding long-standing drug distribution patterns within entertainment venues.

The raid was conducted at B-Fashion Karaoke in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, in relation to suspected drug transactions and abuse. Management has maintained that they were not involved, claiming that the narcotics were brought in by external guests.

However, the Narcotics Crime Directorate of the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri) suspects that drug distribution practices at B-Fashion may have been ongoing for approximately 12 years. Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrirm Polri, stated that statistical estimates suggest a massive scale of distribution. Police estimate that the number of ecstasy pills circulated could reach between 328,500 and 657,000 tablets, with an economic value ranging from Rp 328.5 billion to Rp 675 billion. Furthermore, authorities estimate that between 339,450 and 684,375 individuals may have consumed ecstasy and etomidate vape at the venue.

Following the raid, the Jakarta Provincial Government revoked the operating licences for both B-Fashion and The Seven. The Head of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Andhika Permata, emphasised that there will be zero tolerance for entertainment venues proven to be involved in or permitting illegal activities. He stated that the revocation is a firm measure to maintain a safe, orderly, and high-quality tourism ecosystem. He added that supervision of nightlife venues will be tightened in collaboration with law enforcement agencies to ensure the Jakarta tourism industry grows healthily and maintains public trust.
