Jakarta's Labour-Intensive Programme Sees Enthusiastic Response, Hundreds of Thousands Register
The Jakarta Provincial Government’s labour-intensive job programme has been met with high public enthusiasm. As of Sunday (21/6/2026), approximately 100,000 registrations have been recorded for the 37 types of jobs opened in the first phase.
The provincial government has prepared around 2,843 job opportunities to be opened in stages throughout 2026. The programme is designed as an economic stimulus and social safety net for residents in need of temporary income amid growing economic pressures.
“This programme is to create a social cushion, because global economic pressures are getting harder,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at the National Monument area in Central Jakarta on Sunday (21/6/2026).
Job opportunities are available through activities in four regional agencies: the Highways Department, the Parks and Urban Forests Department, the Water Resources Department, and the Environmental Department. Participants will be involved in the arrangement, care, and maintenance of the city’s environment.
They will work through service providers for each activity and receive wages equivalent to the Jakarta Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP). It should be noted that the programme is not an appointment as a Jakarta Provincial Government employee or as an Individual Other Service Provider (PJLP).
Governor Pramono assured that the selection process is conducted openly and can be monitored by the public. He has also instructed his staff to prevent any practices of favouritism or insider interference.
“Regarding concerns about ‘insiders’ playing games, I have told Mrs Dewi, it is not allowed. It must be transparent and open, because the people of Jakarta are safeguarding and waiting for this,” he stressed.
Head of the Jakarta Communication, Information, and Statistics Agency, Marulina Dewi, said the first phase of registration will be closed in stages on 25–26 June 2026, according to each job’s schedule. The selection results are scheduled to be announced on 27 June 2026.
“We will close the first session on 25 and 26 June and announce it on 27 June. On 27 June, the second session will also open,” Marulina explained.
No Minimum Education Requirement
The Padat Karya programme is prioritised for Jakarta ID card holders who fall into Desil 1–5 welfare categories. Applicants must also be of productive age, currently unemployed, and physically and mentally healthy.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has not set a minimum education requirement so that the opportunity can be accessed more widely by residents who have previously been constrained by formal qualifications when seeking work.
“The most important thing is the requirement of a Jakarta ID card. No diplomas are asked for, and what is more important is that they can start working immediately,” said Governor Pramono.
Assistant for Development and Environment at the Jakarta Regional Secretariat, Afan Adriansyah Idris, stated that every applicant will undergo a verification process. The checks are carried out to ensure participants meet the programme criteria and match the needs of the available jobs.
“We are prioritising this programme for residents who need it most. Therefore, every applicant will be verified to ensure they meet the established criteria and match the needs of the available jobs,” said Afan.
The participants’ work period is temporary, ranging from one to three months, depending on the needs of each activity. The scheme is directed at providing short-term income while involving residents in city maintenance.
“This is not an appointment as a Jakarta Provincial Government employee or PJLP, but a temporary job opportunity tailored to the needs of the work,” Afan clarified.
