Jakarta's Jaksinema Mini Cinema at Pasar Rumput Draws Crowds on Maulid Holiday
Jakarta residents spent their holiday on Tuesday (25/8) by visiting Jaksinema at the Pasar Rumput public housing complex in Tebet, Jakarta.
The presence of Jaksinema as a mini cinema provides an entertainment alternative for residents without straining their wallets, with prices considered very affordable at Rp15,000 on weekdays and Rp20,000 on holidays.
The mini cinema, which was officially opened on 24 August 2026, is located inside the Jakmart minimarket. To access it, visitors can take the lift to the third floor of Tower III after passing through the market on the ground floor.
In a single day, five different films are scheduled to screen alternately from 11.00 to 20.05 WIB. The screening room contains one studio with a capacity of 43 seats.
CNNIndonesia.com observed at the location that the Jaksinema cinema was busy with visitors on the Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW holiday. Visitors came with their families and friends.
Before entering the theatre, they also purchased snacks and drinks available at the Jakmart minimarket to accompany their film viewing.
On Monday (24/8), Jaksinema was officially inaugurated by Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno.
“This complements the effort to realise the vision of Jakarta as a Cinema City, by presenting mini cinemas that screen Indonesian films,” said Rano.
Rano said the mini cinema initiative also expands public appreciation for the works of the nation’s filmmakers and demonstrates how the city can provide space for film and the creative economy to grow.
He is optimistic that the easier it is for the public to access film screening venues, the stronger the film ecosystem and other creative subsectors, such as music, design, crafts, photography, and digital technology, will become.
Amid a dynamic economic situation, Rano assessed that Indonesian cinema is still showing positive momentum.
“That is why Jak Cinema is present closer to residents and offers affordable prices,” he said.
