The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government records that the area of green open spaces (RTH) in the capital in 2025 is only around 5.6 percent. However, Law No. 26 of 2007 on Spatial Planning mandates that the RTH area reach 30 percent of the city’s total area.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo believes that the RTH area in the capital is far above 5.6 percent of Jakarta’s total area. This is because the existence of RTH in Jakarta is considered not yet well documented, so the resulting figure remains relatively small. Therefore, he has asked the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) to conduct a survey of the RTH area in Jakarta.

“In the discussion and deliberation earlier (with BPS), I requested assistance in mapping the green open spaces in Jakarta, which have long been calculated at around 5 percent. However, I am confident there must be a significant increase,” said Pramono at the DKI City Hall in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

In the presentation of Jakarta’s 2025 Regional Budget performance, the RTH area in Jakarta has only reached 5.6 percent. This area increased by 0.24 percent compared to the previous year, which was 5.36 percent.

Meanwhile, Law No. 26 of 2007 on Spatial Planning mandates at least 30 percent RTH in every urban area. The breakdown is 20 percent public RTH provided by local governments and 10 percent private RTH provided by private parties or building owners and housing developments.

BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that her agency is ready to help the DKI Provincial Government in ensuring the RTH area. According to her, this survey can very well be conducted using satellite imagery technology. “We will certainly use satellite imagery technology for this,” said Amalia.
